Bilge pumps are submersible pumps that are designed specifically to pump water out of the bilge of a boat. They are an essential safety element of any boat, regardless of the shape, size or type of boat.
The bilge is the lowest part of the boat or ship and is the area that any water that does make it inside collects so it can be safely expelled from the boat to prevent any damage that may be caused by water.
There are a few things that you will need to consider to ensure that you're buying the correct bilge pump for your boat. These are thing such as the size of your boat, the amount of water your boat could potentially take on which will also affect the flow rate of the pump you do eventually decide on buying.
You'll also want to consider what type of bilge pump you want. You may have noticed that we've got several listed and some of them are automatic and some of them are manual. The manual bilge pumps will require you to manually switch that pump on and then turn it off once the bilge has been drained. This is ok for smaller boats, especially where you wont be continuously running the bilge pump as a lot of them are not suitable for continious running. Alternatively, You could go with an automatic bilge pump. These usually come with some sort of switch such as a float switch or a tube float.
