Puddle Pumps
Puddle pumps are a specialised type of submersible pump designed to remove excess water from flat surfaces such as floors, cellars, basements, and flat roofs. They have the following key features:
- Can pump down to very shallow depths, as low as 1-2mm, without overheating or being damaged
- Do not need to be fully submerged to operate effectively
- Compact size, making them ideal for quick deployment in flooding and emergency situations
- Can be manually controlled or paired with water level sensors for automatic operation
- Able to pump clean water as well as water with some solids and impurities
Puddle pumps use an impeller to generate centrifugal force that transports water away from the surface. They have a seal and volute in the base to allow pumping at very low depths. An integrated non-return valve prevents backflow.
Compared to traditional submersible pumps, puddle pumps do not require installation into a chamber or sump. They are ideal for dewatering flat surfaces and providing flood protection. Popular applications include draining flooded cellars, basements, garages, car parks, and flat roofs.
